What you will study

In addition to the skills required by the Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, the course covers:-
• Accessing and amending company parameters in respect of name and address.
• Setting up supplier and customer settlement terms, credit limits, contact details etc.
• Making and adjusting provision for bad debts.
• Writing off bad debts.
• Processing small balance write offs.
• Processing contras between sales ledger accounts and purchase ledger accounts.
• Processing entries involving the purchase and disposal of fixed assets, including the calculation of profit or loss on disposal.
• Calculating and processing depreciation of fixed assets using both the reducing balance method and the straight-line method.
• Calculating supplier payments according to given terms and conditions.
• Processing entries to reverse opening stock, prepayments and accruals.
• Processing entries in respect of closing stock.
• Calculating and processing entries in respect of closing prepayments and accruals.
• Processing transactions via a suspense account.
• Producing an audit trail for a specified period.
• Producing a supplier and customer day book report for a specified period.
• Producing a profit and loss account and balance sheet for a specified period.
• Setting up and amending bank standing orders.


How you will be assessed

The aim of the examination is to test the candidate’s ability in the setting up and operation of a computerised accounts software package, involving the interpretation and processing of both routine and non-routine transactions, together with the production of the profit and loss account and balance sheet.
The examination is 2.5 hours long, plus 10 minutes reading time, excluding printing time. It is based on a scenario which assumes that the candidate is working in an accounts department using a conventional accounting system. Candidates may be required to access and amend company parameters, set up accounts, process transactions and corrections and produce reports/hard copy.


Entry Requirements

This course is for skilled and experienced users of computerised accounts, with a solid understanding of manual book-keeping and accounting principles. An understanding of double entry book-keeping is essential.


Attendance

The Computerised Accounts Level 3 course lasts for 42 hours. The number of weeks is dependent on individual classes.
