What topics are covered by the course?

What you will study
You will work towards Functional Skills in English and Maths; the Technical Certificate in Warehousing and Storage Principles; and NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing and Storage. For this you will study Health & Safety and developing effective working relationships as mandatory units, plus optional units covering aspects of:- * Providing customers with information and advice * Receiving, moving and storing goods * Processing, assembling and dispatching goods * Dealing with returned goods * Managing the processes and auditing stock records * Moving and handling goods in logistics operations * Operate equipment to perform work requirements * Health & Safety at work * Develop effective working relationships at work Maths and English (and sometimes IT) are key elements of apprenticeship programmes and if you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects you will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate levels. Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C. This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.

Your Course Structure

You will be assessed by an industry professional in all aspects of warehousing and storage that relate to your job role. The assessor will gather evidence that would prove your competence from the units you and your employer have chosen.

How You Will Learn

Much of the learning will take place at your place of employment. Your assessor will assign you work to carry out and together with your employer will confirm your competence. Your assessor will visit you at your place of work and assess you on your chosen units. You will be observed carrying out your duties within your working environment.


A minimum period of 14 months will usually be required for the competencies to be achieved.

What will I be able to do on completion?

Further study

Choose between widening your experience within the logistics sector or undertaking a relevant Advanced Apprenticeship. This could lead you to a Logistics Operations Management qualification at Level 3.

How will I be assessed?
