A three-day intensive management training programme particularly suitable for the newly promoted manager or for those soon to assume a management role. The programme deals with people management issues with clear guidelines every step of the way. Tutorial sessions, case studies, practical exercises, presentations and evening syndicate work make this an action packed three days.
Description of Course
This three-day, intensive residential course has been specifically designed to give a flying start to those moving into their first management position. Practical and pragmatic in nature, it will provide an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a manager together with a solid foundation of the key skills and underlying knowledge necessary to manage people effectively. Many managers have used this course as the starting point for a successful career in management and a number of organisations use this course to supplement their own management development programmes.
Within the course, specially designed self-assessments are used backed with skill building exercises to encourage delegates to develop their full potential. The programme also provides ample opportunities for the exploration of individual issues, with additional individual coaching from the tutor as required. In addition to the daytime exercises, there is a group evening exercise at the end of day one and at the end of day two. This evening syndicate work forms an essential part of the programme and delegates are therefore encouraged to stay at the venue so they can gat the most from the programme.
The course starts by identifying the role and responsibilities of the manager and exploring the common problems faced when moving into this role. Self-management principles are reviewed to ensure delegates can be effective in their new position.
The key skills of managing people are then covered in a systematic way. These include delegation, motivation, giving feedback, counselling, discipline, recruitment procedures, problem solving, developing staff, keys to effective meetings and performance reviews. Clear guidelines are provided on each topic and exercises, case studies, role play, group discussions and tutor feedback used to ensure the necessary skills are practiced and developed. Self-assessment tools are used to help delegates relate the training points to their own situation and throughout the programme delegates are encouraged to identify specific actions that they will implement on their return to work.
The course is part of Spearheads open course portfolio and therefore delegates will be part of a small group with fellow delegates coming from a wide variety of other organisations. As such, the course provides delegates with the opportunity to understand organisations that are different to their own organisation and to their own previous experience. The insights delegates gain into other organisations through the group discussions and group exercises are very valuable as they help to positively challenge their own assumptions and so become more rounded managers.
In summary, this management training course is a great way to invest in your new managers future success. Our supportive and highly experienced tutors will give your new managers the confidence to step up to their new role and provide them with the essential tools to succeed.
