What you will study
A series of units covering the theory and practice of the following topics:-
* Health & Safety
* Information, quantities and communicating with others
* Building methods and construction technology
* First fixing operations
* Second fixing operations
* Erecting complex structural carcassing
* Maintenance of non-structural and structural components
* Setting up and using fixed and transportable machinery
* Constructing a traditional hipped roof with dormer
Your Course Structure
Classroom: 45%; Practical: 55%
How you will learn
Through practical tasks in the College workshops, working through associated study packages, attending lectures and tutorials and using the Learning Resource Centre.
How you will be assessed
Continuous assessment throughout the course of practical workshop tasks and online unit-end tests. Final assessment is through completion of a practical piece of work and an external exam.
Entry Requirements
Level 2 qualification in Site Carpentry or three to four years suitable industrial experience which can be assessed at an interview with a course tutor. You will also need Level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications. If you do not have these, we can assess your current level of literacy/numeracy.
Attendance
This is a full time course and you will be required to attend three days per week.
