Overview Before it can be determined how the IT function can support a business, we have to understand what the objectives of a business are, how it operates and the type of problems it encounters. Where no current system exists or when requirements are extremely vague, a Business Activity Model assists in defining why the business is doing what it does (business perspectives) and what should be done (activities and the dependencies between them). This course covers the principles and concepts of the approach and the technique itself. The course goes on to show how the resultant business activity model can be used to define where IT requirements will be needed to support the business activities. Perhaps the most common reason for failure of IT development projects is that of a lack of clear understanding of true requirements. This course is aimed at those involved in identifying or eliciting and recording user requirements and generating a Definition of Requirements . The course defines the types of requirements, the people involved in managing the elicitation process, techniques of requirements analysis and ways of prioritising and validating requirements. By working closely together, the user community and the development group can agree the real needs of the business and the requirements of the IT system to support the business.
