What you will study
The course will cover hairdressing services in theory and practice and will include: advise and consult with clients, shampoo and condition hair and scalp, the art of dressing hair, cutting, colouring, reception duties, developing team work, Health, Safety and Security. Other units will be covered subject to awarding body.
Full-time students will be expected to work towards appropriate Functional Skills qualifications in Maths, English and ICT.
The qualification attracts UCAS points if you are hoping to progress to university.
How you will learn
Hairdressing skills will be demonstrated and practised in the College salons, where you will have the opportunity to work on paying clients. The knowledge required to gain certification will be gained in theory lessons and by study in the Learning Centre.

Classroom: 30%; Practical: 50%; Work Experience: 20%

How you will be assessed
Practical assessment is ongoing as and when appropriate. There will be written tests, some written assignments and projects and the collection of a portfolio.
Entry Requirements
Level 1 literacy and numeracy. If you do not have the relevant level of qualification, we can assess your current level of literacy/numeracy. Enthusiasm and commitment are essential and will be assessed at interview/screening test. Positive school report.
Attendance
The normal length of time for the course is one year.
Part-time students will spend one day per week in College and can gain the Level 2 qualification in two years.
