What you will study

Year 1 - Apply make-up, follow Health & Safety practice in salon, provide eyelash and brow treatments, provide facial skin care, remove hair using waxing techniques, salon reception duties, client care and communication in beauty-related industries, provide manicure treatments, provide pedicure treatments, provide eye lash perming, contribute to the effective running of the business, display stock to promote sales in a salon. In Term 3 only - shampooing, conditioning and blow drying techniques.
Year 2 - Hairdressing techniques such as cutting, shampooing, styling, perming and colouring.
You will also be expected to work towards Functional Skills qualifications in ICT, Maths and English.


Your Course Structure

Classroom: 40% approx; Practical: 60% approx


How you will learn

A mixture of theory classes and practical work in the College salons.


How you will be assessed

Assessment of your practical work, written tests, oral questions, assignments and portfolio building.

Entry Requirements

English at grade A* - C plus excellent school report or Level 1 Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy. Level 1 numeracy qualification - if you do not have this we can assess you. All candidates will be interviewed and expected to show serious commitment to the course and good self-motivation. Excellent references.


Attendance

Two years. Times to be confirmed.
Industrial Placement - all candidates will attend a salon of their choice for one day per week. The days will be negotiated once you have joined the course.
