This qualification is designed for learners who wish to gain entry into employment in the adult care sector. It is also suitable for carers of a friend or relative e.g. caring for an elderly parent, and people returning to work who have not studied for some time. Learner also to progress to further learning opportunities when in employment in areas such as the:
• NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
• NVQ Level 2 in Support Services in Health Care
The course comprises of three units:
1. Introduction to the adult care sector
2. Developing communication skills for those caring for adults
3. Health and safety awareness for adult carers
The broad objectives are to:-
• Develop an understanding of differing adult care needs and services
• Understand the importance of respecting rights, choices, equality and values when caring for adults
• Develop knowledge of the skills required and the responsibilities of an adult carer
• Develop appropriate communication skills for caring for adults
• Develop an awareness of the role and importance of record keeping when caring for adults
• Understand the importance of health, safety and security when caring for adults
• Develop an awareness of health and safety policies and procedures when caring for adults.
