This day course provides students with a current FAW certificate the chance learn how to administer oxygen therapy to an ill or injured casualty. It also covers the use of basic airway devices to maintain the unconscious casualty’s airway, and the use of the Bag-Valve-Mask device during resuscitation.

The course is for those people holding a current first aid at work certificate or emergency first aid at work certificate.
By the end of the course students will be able to:
• Describe the basic anatomy of the airway and respiratory system.
• Understand the common causes of airway obstruction and the required interventions.
• Demonstrate the safe and effective use of oxygen therapy equipment.
• State the safe working practices when using oxygen therapy equipment.
• Describe the contra indication to the use of oxygen.
• Demonstrate the safe and effective use of the Oropharyngeal (OP) airway.
• Describe the contraindications for the use of the OP airway.
• Demonstrate the safe and effective use of the Bag-Valve-mask (BVM) device during resuscitation using one and two rescuer techniques.
