Building the Team

More often that not, teams are a collection of individuals selected for their technical expertise or process knowledge. Little consideration is given to their ability to combine with others in an effective way to ensure that the broader overall objectives are achieved. Aligning all members to the goals of the team poses a real challenge in the more loosely structured, cross functional methods of working prevalent today.




Equally, as short-term, single-project teams become more common, there is less time than ever for conventional team training and team building activities. The team has to learn to work together effectively as the project goes along.




This puts increasing emphasis on the skills and abilities of the team leader, who must be able to:


 understand and maximise the strengths of individual team members


 ensure clear and efficient communication between members


 build a team ethos
