Manual Handling Awareness
Manual handling occurs in almost every workplace and at any one time someone will be moving objects as part of their every day work activities. Work-related accidents result in around 6 million lost working days each year, with back injuries continuing to account for a high proportion of these. Manual handling activities cause more than one-third of all injuries lasting over three days that are reported each year in the UK.
Manual handling activities are covered by specific legislation (Manual Handling Operations Regulations) which places obligations on employers and employees to try to reduce the number of employees being injured through lifting and moving loads at work.
