With a background of reports of abuse, neglect and malnutrition, and with Age Concern estimating 500,000 older people being subjected to abuse at any one time, mostly in healthcare settings this is an important topic (Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights Report, 2007).
This interactive e-learning course is designed to enable personnel from a range of organisations to understand their responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of older people.
This course will enable you to understand the single assessment process and its application in Health and Social Care, according to the standards set out in the National Service Framework for Older People. The course is work-based and very flexible, accessed via the Web, with a book-marking facility allowing users to work through the courses at their own pace, breaking-off when and where they wish. Completion of the course is recognised with a Certificate - valuable for annual appraisals and/or CPD.

Benefits of the Course:
This course will benefit individuals and organisations by having trained health and social care professionals who have a deeper understanding of the Single Assessment Process.
The course provides all the background information required by professionals and can be used as a prerequisite for joint interactive learning events that focus on single assessment documentation. Users who successfully complete the e-learning course will have gained skills in understanding assessment types, the domains to consider within assessment and how to overcome some of the challenges inherent in single assessment.
Health and social care professionals will be aware of best practice and be able to make recommendations for improving practice within the organisation. Not only serving as an invaluable tool for blended learning strategies, the e-learning approach is especially suitable for service groups who may have difficulties releasing staff to attend training sessions, or where local capacity to deliver sessions is not sufficient.
The subject matter expert is Dr Jayne Taylor PhD, RN, RHV, BSc (Hons), Dip Nursing (Lond), Cert Ed., RNT, MBA. She has worked in Higher Education her last post being Dean of Health in East Anglia. She worked originally for what was then Hertsmere PCT as Clinical Governance and Education Manager and for the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Workforce Development Confederation as a Strategic Advisor. She was part of the Education Strategy group developing the training for the roll-out of Single Assessment in Hertfordshire. She has written and contributed to fifteen books in the field of health and research and has been an active researcher for a number of years.
