A report, called Breathing Fear, suggested that only one in four people with a potentially fatal condition have it diagnosed. The condition is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and it is predicted that it will be the third largest killer by the year 2020 (British Thoracic Society).
This 60 minute e-learning course will enable you to manage the care of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) according to the standards of the British Thoracic Society and National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).
The course is work-based and very flexible, accessed via the Web, with a book-marking facility allowing users to work through the courses at their own pace, breaking-off when and where they wish. Completion of the course is recognised with a Certificate - valuable for annual appraisals and/or CPD.

The course will benefit the primary health care team by having health care professionals who have a deeper understanding of COPD. Users who successfully complete the e-learning programme will have a deeper understanding of the current information of the British Thoracic Society and National Institute for Clinical Excellence Guidelines for the management of COPD in adults.
Not only does it serve as an invaluable tool for blended learning strategies, the e-learning approach is especially suitable for service groups who may have difficulties releasing staff to attend training sessions, or where local capacity to deliver sessions is not sufficient.
The subject matter expert is Dr Dave Lynes who is Head of Education at Respiratory Education UK and is therefore responsible for the quality of courses on the modular academic programme. With a background in respiratory nursing and education, he has a Ph.D in Social Psychology. He has delivered the respiratory component of a Specialist Practice degree programme, and has also participated in establishing and developing Respiratory Education UK, including strategic planning, and the validation and production of academic modules and programmes. Current projects include the establishment of a research department within Respiratory Education UK.
