Horticultural Therapy
From ancient times, gardens have played a vital role in the healing traditions of many cultures. We have only to consider the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Water Gardens of Japan and the Physic gardens abounding with healing plants, of the medieval monasteries, to recognise the importance of horticulture around the world and across the centuries. Everyone has the freedom to make their own healing link with plants both in the home and garden, seeking inspiration in the most natural form. Within this context, the garden and its creation, provide ways for experiencing healing in a very accessible and personal way. The power of the earth and the changing power of vegetation that fruits and seeds, and then is reborn to grow and fruit again, is enriching to the physical body and to the emotions of the mind.
This course is designed to help the student design, grow and maintain their own garden of Healing.
