This course provides hands on, practical training on hoists which are used within the care environment. It is specific to the organisation and training will be given on equipment which is actually used. Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), the employer must ensure that work equipment is suitable, maintained and inspected under Lifting of Loads Equipment Regulations (LOLER) They must also provide employees with adequate information and instruction. The equipment should only be used by personnel who have received suitable and sufficient training.

Checking equipment to ensure it is cleaned, maintained and in a safe condition.
Suitability of equipment for clients needs
Maintaining clients dignity and independence when using the equipment
Principles of risk assessment
Demonstrate appropriate slings (Different slings for different tasks)
Practical session using equipment for specific tasks (bed transfers, floor transfers, seat transfers, toilet transfers
Correct use of slings (eg toileting sling, hammock sling, universal sling, bathing sling, quickfit deluxe sling)
Using correct size of sling appropriate to the client.

An attendance certificate is awarded on completion of the course; this is subject to satisfaction of the instructor and the end of course practical assessments.
