It has now become mandatory for all employed staff to be trained in basic fire fighting and fire prevention, as defined in the Fire Precautions (Place of Work) Regulations 1998. This in-house course satisfies the specific additional training requirements of the act, which mandates all the levels of fire safety training. An attendance certificate will be awarded to each candidate if full attendance is achieved. As a recommendation this training should be updated every year.

Course Syllabus
*Introductory discussion of fire statistics plus an illustration on the principles of combustion.
*The old BS 5423 colour coding and the new BS EN3 standards on the selection operation and use of portable fire extinguishers.
*Hazard spotting evacuation principles signage and fire stuctures.
*A class practical session on the operation and use of fire extinguishers. This session is outdoors and only includes the fire extinguishers that are in use throughout the candidates work place.
Class question and answer session on the principles of fire extinguisher use.
The introduction of Risk Assesment to generate greater awareness of the potential hazards present in the workplace.
Review and feedback session.
