This course is designed to give you a good understanding of stress management. It will give you skills as how to manage your own stress, ways of thinking, relaxing, assertion techniques and time management. As this is based on you personally, you will be able to develop your own skills which you can then use to help others to overcome stressful situations. Anyone can complete this UK Open Learning course, whether you would like to learn about stress for personal reasons or develop your own skills to help others this course could be for you.
This course is designed to help students overcome stress, on completion of the units you are then asked to complete an action plan, this will help you decide which technique works best for you. You can also use these skills to help others to complete an action plan to help them overcome stress.

Aims of the Course
The course aims to enable you to:


  • Clarify what you mean by stress

  •  Identify what causes you stress

  •  Explore ways of coping with stress more effectively

  • Try out some techniques for coping with stress

  • Take responsibly for your own learning

Study Method
The course is designed for study by distance learning at work or at home.  Students receive course manual, assignments and study guide plus full tutor support by e-mail or post. We will send the full course out by courier and then you work through the course completing the assignments which you then send off to your tutor for marking.  
Qualification
Level 2 This is part of a series of non-accredited short courses. You will receive a UK Open Learning Certificate in Stress Management on successful completion of your assignments.
Assessments
Assessment takes the form of a series of tutor marked assignments. Which you submit to your tutor for marking. There is no final exam for this course. There is no word count for the assignments, however you do need to prove to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions. One word answers will be rejected.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course just a willingness to learn the subject.
Timescale
The programme takes place over a timescale to suit the student.  Once registered, tutor support is available for up to one year or until completion whichever is the soonest. You need to allow around 30 study hours to complete the course.
Location
The programme is home or work-based enabling students to complete the course at their own time without having to attend scheduled college teaching sessions.
Tutor Support
Throughout the course, students will receive tutor support by email and by post for a full year from the date they receive the course.

Working through this unit will help you to:

  • Identify a recent stressful experience

  • Clarify what ‘stress’ means to you personally

  • Identify the key stages in the development of stress

  • Determine how far you are suffering from stress

Unit 2: Sources of stress
Working through this unit will help you to:

  • Identify significant sources of stress in your life

  • Identify sources of stress in your work place

  • Prepare a stress map



Unit 3: Tackling stress: thinking skills, health and relaxation
Working through this unit will help you to:

  • Identify ways of thinking that may contribute to stress

  • Practise alternative ways of thinking, to combat stress

  • Maintain the ‘stability’ zones in your life

  • Practise a simple relaxation techn
