Report Writing Home Study Course
If you need to write a professional report for work related issues or for your own personal use. Then our course will direct you in the right direction to do so. It will cover titles and introductions, collecting information, checking your writing, illustrations and layout and presentation of your work.
Everyone appreciates clear, well-structured and informative reports but to do this requires particular skills. This course will help you to develop the necessary skills so that people may even look forward to reading your report and you should look forward to writing them.

Study Method
The course is designed for study by distance learning at work or at home. Students receive course manual, assignments and study guide plus full tutor support for a year. We will send the complete course out by courier and you work through the courses at your own time, completing the assignments and sending them off to your tutor for marking.
Qualification
Level 2 This is part of a series of non-accredited short courses. You will also receive a UK Open Learning Certificate in Writing a Report.
Assessments
Assessment takes the form of a series of tutor marked assignments. Which you send off to your tutor for marking. There is no word count for these assignments however you need to prove to the tutor that you have fully understood the questions.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course, just a interest in learning how to write reports.
Timescale
The programme takes place over a timescale to suit the student. Once registered, tutor support is available for up to one year or until completion whichever is the soonest. You need to allow around 30 study hours.
Location
The programme is home or work-based enabling students to complete the course without having to attend scheduled college teaching sessions.
Tutor Support
Throughout the course, students will receive tutor support by email and by post for 12 months from the day they receive the course.

Unit 2: Terms of reference, titles and introductions
Working through this unit will help you to:
List the elements that make up the terms of reference of a report
Say why the terms of reference are so important
Know when to ask for the terms of reference to be made clear
Write an effective title
Write an effective introduction
Unit 3: Collecting information
Working through this unit, you should be able to:
List possible sources of the information necessary to write a report
Say why it is important to keep a note of these sources
Use ‘spray notes’ as a way of recording what you already know, and of noting questions which you hope your courses will answer
Use three methods of collecting information
Unit 4: Organising the information
After working through this unit you should be able to:
Organise points in a logical order
Plan your report
Link the various sections together
Unit 5: Writing conclusions and recommendations
After working through this unit you should be able to:
Write and effective conclusion
Write clear recommendations
See how conclusions and recommendations relate to terms of reference, title and introduction
Unit 6: Planning paragraphs
After working through this unit you should be able to:
Say what makes a successful paragraph
Write paragraphs that are clear and compete in themselves
Unit 7: Writing clearly
After working through this unit you should be able to:
Check that your writing style is clear
Check that you are using the appropriate tone
