Course Objectives
Unit 1: Intermediate Equality and Diversity in the Workplace
Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the difference between equality and diversity
2. Understand which groups in society are most vulnerable to stereotyping an dhow this can lead to prejudice and discrimination
3. Appreciate current legislation supporting equality in the workplace
4. Understand the concepts of bullying and harassment as forms of discrimination
5. Understand the impact of discrimination on an individual and an organisation
6. Understand how working practices support or cause barriers to equality and diversity
Unit 2: An Overview of Equality and Diversity Issues
Learning Outcomes:
1. Be aware of concepts of identity and of the individual in relationship to other people
2. Have an awareness of the need for the individual and the organisation to respect individuality and difference
3. Have an awareness of appropriate underpinning legislation in relationship to the organisation’s policy and practice
4. Understand prejudice and discrimination
5. Understand the concepts of bullying, harassment, institutional racism, racism, sexism and stereotyping
6. Identify the presence of practical and communication barriers to equality and diversity
7. Be aware of key components that would be instrumental in an organisation’s action planning in support of equality and diversity
Unit 3: Equality and Fairness Development for Employees
Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand own strengths and weaknesses about own personality, culture and beliefs
2. Understand the principles of group behaviour
3. Understand the impact of different cultures found in the workplace and community
4. Understand what improvements can contribute to making the workplace or other group a fairer culture
5. Understand what diversity means and how to promote it in the workplace
6. Understand what harassment is and the importance of dealing with it
7. Understand different ways of dealing with conflict
Pre-requisites of the course
Basic English reading and writing skills, as full tutor support is given.
Support
As an UK Open Learning home learning student, you will have access to your own personal tutor helping you with your course work and with any questions you may have. This will last for one year. There are no deadlines for assignments. However, the full course must be completed within 12 months from the day you receive it.
If you do require an extension, then we may need to re-register you with the awarding body. In addition, the tutors may charge a small fee for extra tuition.
Study Details
This course can be studied at your own pace and there are no deadlines for assignments to be completed. As mentioned above, you must complete the full course within 12 months from the date you received the course. To complete this course it will take in the region of 100 study hours, which can be split over a 12 month period.
