Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) measures the availability, performance and quality of a process. OEE shows how well the business is utilising its resources, including equipment and labour. The goal of the OEE program is to markedly increase output while, at the same time, increasing employee morale and job satisfaction. OEE combines three measures; availability, performance and quality to see how well a process - including those ‘operating’ it - is performing. Owing much to Total Productive Maintenance, down time for ‘maintenance’ is scheduled as a part of the working day and, in some cases, as an integral part of the process. The goal is to hold emergency and unscheduled maintenance to a minimum, significantly reduce costs, improve quality and delivery performance. Quality measures look at how much output is actually ‘good’ compared with the total, and this ratio is included in the overall OEE measure. This programme looks at the range of issues involved, and how an organisation might set about improving them, and achieving continuous improvement.
