Assertiveness at work is a short course at level 2 that will help you to take responsibility for yourself and your actions. It will develop your confidence in asserting your rights and standing up for what you believe in. It will help you in negotiations both in acknowledging others and in promoting a mutually beneficial outcome.

Aims of the course
The course aims to enable you to:
Define what is meant by assertive behaviour
Clarify your basic rights as a human being, which you share with others
Decide how assertive behaviour can help you deal with other people
Practice a range of assertiveness techniques
Be aware of cultural differences
Identify cultural differences that are likely to affect assertiveness
Take responsibility for your own learning
Study Method
The course is designed for study by distance learning at work or at home. Students receive course manual, assignments and study guide plus full tutor support by e-mail and post. We will send the full course out by courier and then you work through the course completing the assignment which you then send off to your tutor for marking.
Qualification
Level 2 this is part of a series of non-accredited short courses.
Assessments
Assessment takes the form of a series of tutor marked assignments. You will also receive a UK Open Learning Certificate in assertiveness at work. There is no final exam for this course. There is no word count for the assignments; however you do have to prove to your tutor that you have fully understood the assignment.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course, just a willingness to learn.
Timescale
The programme takes place over a timescale to suit the student. Once registered, tutor support is available for up to one year or until completion whichever is the soonest. You need to allow around 30 study hours.
Tutor Support
Throughout the course, students will receive tutor support by email and by post for a full year from the date they receive the course.

Unit 1: What is assertiveness?
Working through this unit will enable you to:
Define assertive behaviour by distinguishing between assertiveness, aggression and non-assertiveness
Identify your rights
Unit 2: How can assertiveness help you?
Working through this unit will enable you to:
Assess your behaviour in a range of situations
Decide which situations would benefit from more assertive behaviour
Unit 3: The building blocks of assertive behaviour
Working through this unit will enable you to develop your skills in:
Use other building blocks of assertiveness
Appropriate body language
Listening actively
Owning your thoughts- being clear about them and taking responsibility for them
Unit 4: Practicing assertive techniques
