The NVQ L2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is a nationally recognised qualification for teaching assistants. The course aims to develop confidence, motivation and practical skills in the role of a teaching assistant.
The NVQ L2 is suitable for those employed as teaching assistants or those who are new to teaching and work under the direction of a teacher, coordinating with others. Level 2 qualifications are for staff who carry out a range of activities, some of which may be non-routine. They demonstrate a range of skills and apply knowledge and understanding in a number of areas.

The NVQ L2 is made up of both mandatory and optional units, allowing the candidate and their employer to tailor the learning to the skills required at their workplace. Candidates must complete the following units:
•Providing support for learning activities
•Supporting children’s development
•Helping to keep children safe
•Contributing to positive relationships
•Providing effective support for your colleagues
•And you’ll be able to choose two other units
