The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) provides a positive and constructive way of understanding and valuing differences between people. MBTI is one of the most widely used psychological instruments which can aid in identifying the differences between people - providing managers with an additional insight into people they manage and others they deal with. This course introduces managers to Personality Type theory and explores its practical uses in motivation, communication and leadership. Partcipants will understand themselves and others much more deeply, and will be able to develop a wider variety of strategies for understanding and influencing others.

The Learning Experience:

Type theory describes personality differences in terms of a number of opposite preferences, such as extraversion/intraversion and sensing/ intuition, which help explain why people habitually think and react in certain ways. A person’s psychological ‘type’ is their combination of preferences, usually reported as a four-letter code.

The course involves participants in completion of the MBTI questionnaire, discussion and practical exercises each designed to illustrate Type theory when applied in the business environment and develop a working understanding of Jungian Type Theory.

A highly participative course where participants will learn by identifying and exploring their own personality type, and contrasting it with that of other managers on the course. Using a variety of practical exercises, participants will experience how different personality types approach different working situations. The emphasis is on identifying both the strengths and the potential weaknesses of different styles, to enable participants to work effectively with their own style and with people whose personality is different.

A handbook of best practice guidelines together with a set of 'learning helpcards' supplement this course and are also provided.
