Course Outcomes/Benefits of Attending:
In this course we will explore options, develop essential skills, and practice different styles. By the end of this course you will be able to:
maximise your communications abilities by applying the nine basic behavioural skills of effective interpersonal communications
apply new techniques to enhance your ability to communicate with others
plan to change one communication habit each week
recognise the differences between factual and emotional communications and react accordingly
seek feedback to ensure that your learning is effectively applied.
The Learning Experience:
Communication skills are introduced through both tutor led discussion and illustration as well as through the use of a series of games and exercises to illustrate and inform participants of the need to communicate effectively - and the risks associated with not being an effective communicator.
The course makes use of a supporting workbook which will provide the basics of good interpersonal skills, all of which will be improved upon with practice in the course. This workbook represents and illustrates best practice communications skills, each of which is explored fully on the course.
A highly participative course with a mixture of tutor input, plenary discussions, syndicate exercises together with use of CCTV, used to illustrate and develop effective communications skills and behaviour.
Through the use of CCTV and a self assessment questionnaire, participants will also have the opportunity to monitor the change in their skills during the course. A large part of the course will be spent running a series of structured and participative sessions to illustrate the need for effective communications skills in the workplace, as the basis for personal development and growth.
There is an emphasis on participative exploration. A handbook of best practice guidelines together with a set of 'learning helpcards' supplement this course and are also provided.
