Understand what is 'good' coaching
Be equipped to implement coaching as part of your management style/repertoire
Be able to follow through the coaching model for realising the potential of your colleagues
Be equipped to coach your team members to maximise their performance
Plan, carry out and review the effectiveness of their coaching on the job interventions.
The Learning Experience:
There are a number of possible coaching styles, each appropriate to different situations and levels of experience and motivation. The mature coach will be comfortable across a range of options, and be able to move smoothly between them, all the time focused on maximising the performance of their coachee.
Centered around the course participants, the learning experience will include discussion, practical exercises, problem solving, small group work and role plays. Extensive use of CCTV will be made for illustrative and feedback purposes.
The skills and styles necessary to coach effectively on the job are introduced through tutor led discussion, role plays and learning through observation and feedback.
There is an emphasis on participative exploration. A handbook of best practice guidelines together with a set of 'learning helpcards' supplement this course and are also provided.
Programme Outline:
Coaching on the job is all about giving and receiving feedback - to equip the coachee to make some decisions and a commitment to improving their performance or changing their behaviour - the use of a simple model and practice will equip participants with the confidence and skills needed to carry this out effectively.
Designed with minimal structure, this can however be varied to meet the particular needs of the group. The most effective structure is a modular one based on the principles of action learning. The discussion and role plays will highlight the following:
Understanding effective coaching - the effective coach
Understanding the Process/Steps in conducting coaching sessions
Use of a 3 stage, 7 step model used in role plays to illustrate best practice approaches to coaching on the job
Coaching Skills/Behaviours and Styles
Scenario role plays to illustrate the skills, behaviours and styles required to be an effective coach on the job
Feedback - Identifying Opportunities and Raising Awareness
Action Planning the application of the programme learning
Establishing follow-up learning needs.
Who Should Attend:
Whilst beneficial for anyone, greatest benefit will be derived from managers and leaders of other team members, especially those who wish to be able to optimise the performance of their staff or others with whom they are working on-the-job.
Course Duration:
The programme is of three day’s duration.
Number of Participants:
