In this course we will explore options, develop essential skills, and practice different styles associated with effective client-centred consulting, building your confidence and capability in the process. By the end of this course you will be able to:
Maximise your writing skills on a consultancy assignment
Apply your knowledge and understanding of a range of basic tools and techniques to assist at each stage of the design, prodcution and delivery
Consultancy 'written pieces' - what does good look like?
The e-mail, letter, proposal, progress reports, presentation of the results of your analysis, writing to influence - recommendations
Decide when to write and when not to
Distinguish between good and bad writing
Clarify their purpose in writing
Set clear objectives for any written communication
Determine and use the most appropriate outline structure for any written communication to achieve the results sought
State and apply the six principles of clear writing
Write clearly in an appropriate style and recognise how to achieve economy and clarity
Prepare a draft for a document and carry out a post-production review
Review their written documents impartially; and
Overcome their own blocks to good business writing
Plan, carry out and review the effectiveness of your written pieces.
The Learning Experience:
A highly participative course where participants will experiment with a range of approaches and draw on each others' experiences. With a mixture of tutor input, plenary discussions and syndicate exercises, each used to develop a deeper understand of the issues facing consultants as they attempt to compose a concise and compelling written piece.
Participants will also have the opportunity, through extensive feedback sessions to monitor the changes in their skills and behaviour - towards effective writing skills - during the course. The course also involves participants working on an interactive 'live' writing project.
There is an emphasis on participative exploration. A handbook of best practice guidelines together with a set of 'learning helpcards' supplement this course and are also provided.

Good and Bad Business Writing:
The use of pre-course materials will help confirm what constitutes effective business writing
Effective Business Writing Process:
The use of a 3 stage model used to illustrate best practice in planning, drafting and reviewing your written piece
Structuring Your Message:
An Introduction to Top Down Thinking - a collection of techniques to hook your reader
Getting it WRITE!
Understanding the importance of the Aim, Language, Style, Structure and Layout in effective written business communications
Action Planning the application of the programme learning
Establishing follow-up learning needs.

Any one new to consulting or anyone who has the requirement to produce effective written business communications.

The programme is of two day’s duration.

At OTT Consulting we believe in providing a suitable ratio of 'trainers to participants' to maximise everyone's ability to learn. We have therefore designed all our courses to accommodate 6 participants as the optimum number of participants.
