IMPACT ASSESSMENT TRAINING

This one day workshop offers an introduction to Impact Assessment. Using Astar's own Impact Assessment Framework, the workshop develops participants' skills and approach to conduct impact assessments and engage service users and the community.

What is Impact Assessment?

The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 requires listed public authorities to conduct an assessment of the impact of their current or intended policies, programmes and service delivery for any differential experiences or outcomes of Black or Minority Ethnic groups and to take action to remove any inequalities. Impact Assessment can be applied to other areas of equality and is a key business tool in ensuring equality of policies and services.

What is the Aim of the workshop?

The workshop will enable participants to:

Have an understanding of the relevance and value of Impact Assessments in the context of promoting race equality

Gain practical skills to conduct Impact Assessments

Develop a practical approach to engaging service users and the community

Consider actions to achieve and promote race equality following an assessment

Who should participate?

This one day workshop is for staff and managers from all organisations, but particularly public authorities. Participants should already have an awareness of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 and be familiar with their organisation's Race Equality Scheme.

What does the package include?

One workshop for up to 16 participants, including workbooks for delegates to use in the workshop and then keep for future reference

One Astar facilitator

A one hour phone consultation before the workshop to ensure outcomes and context are relevant

An evaluation summary of learning outcomes and action points and the opportunity to discuss this with an Astar Consultant

What do we need to provide?

Astar asks that the client provide the following:

The workshop venue: 1 main conference room (of suitable capacity) and 1 syndicate room (if possible) with appropriate equipment (chairs, flipcharts, etc.)

Lunch and refreshments for the participants and facilitator

A copy of your organisations Race Equality Scheme, or a summary, should be provided 15 working days prior to the workshop

A selection of relevant policies to use as practical examples with Astar's Impact Assessment Framework
