Everyone is currently talking about "user experience" or "customer experience" or "interaction design" or "interface design", but what does it all mean, and what does it mean for your company? In a day when computers and technology continues to invade every inch of people's lives, good design is one of the most important weapons available. Effective user centred design can make the difference between a product that sells and a product that sells well with little or no customer support required. This training course will cover the main areas of creating excellent and efficient user experiences. It will explain the difference between interaction design, interface design, information architecture, graphic design, usability and human computer interaction (HCI). It will also explain what these different elements mean for different projects that are worked on every day.

Who it is for: This training course is aimed at developers who are involved in the building of effective and intuative interfaces.

Training Course Prerequisites:
Knowledge of web technologies including: HTML, DHTML, Javascript, image use, Flash and multimedia, Server-side Scripting (e.g. PHP, Perl, ASP, JSP) and HTTP.
Understand a number of different types of navigation and interactivity available such as drop down menus, pop-up windows, checkboxes, entry boxes etc.
We assume no knowledge of information architecture or interaction design including interface and graphic design although some interface or graphic design experience would be helpful.

Training Course Objectives:

At the end of this training course, students should be able to:

Understand how to create effective and simple to use interactive designs for various projects.
Describe the principles of user centred design and apply them to different projects.
Develop conceptual design models using user centred design principles.
Develop interface design mock-ups from conceptual design models.
Develop user scenarios to evaluate and inform conceptual design models and interface design mock-ups.
Conduct simple usability testing of interface design mock-ups and apply the results back into the designs
