H, S & W - ICE Development Objective E2 “Legislation”
This course is designed to contribute to the Appreciation (A) & Knowledge (K) elements of the Institution of Civil Engineers' new Development Objective E2 - "Manage and apply safe systems of work".
Part of the under-pinning knowledge required to demonstrate the achievement of Attribute No. 6 - "Health Safety & Welfare" - will also be provided and will help delegates to create "A sound knowledge of legislation…."

Good workplace health and safety does not happen by accident - health and safety must be managed! Did you know that over a recent 10 year period 69 managers / professionals died as a result of accidents on site? Only roofers were more at risk according to HSC statistics.
This seminar will help you to develop your awareness of the dangers of site work. It will also examine the legal requirements to help you comply with the law - and most importantly it could help you or your fellow worker(s) stay alive!
We will examine:
The history and formation of current H & S legislation.
The 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act
A detailed review
The Role of the H & S Commission and Executive
Duties Holders - including YOUR duties
The Safety Policy
Powers of Inspectors
Penalties, Fines and Enforcement Orders
Management of H & S at Work including the fundamentals of Risk Assessment
ICE Rules for Professional Conduct - H & S issues
Your vulnerability in the early days on a new site - site hazards awareness
Good management practices
At appropriate times throughout the day self- assessment exercises will be used.
