Introduction to machine
Pre - shift inspections
Controls and instruments
Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems
Trenching, back-filling, levelling and marking out
Excavating deep and shallow excavation
Use of the front loader
Other associated construction activities
Explanation of attachments

Course Outcome
Identify the basic construction and components, and the purpose and use of all its controls and gauges.
Identify and comply with manufacturers instructions in accordance with the operators handbook, other information sources, and applicable legislation.
Explain all relevant documentation.
Carry out all pre-use and running checks.
Configure the excavator for site and road travel.
Travel over differing types of terrain, including rough undulating ground and substantial inclines.
Manoeuvre the excavator in confined areas.
Set the machine to excavate.
Excavate below ground level on a variety of excavations in different ground types.
Place spoil into various sizes of vehicles/hoppers.
Grade, spread and level different types of terrain.
Remove and re-attach buckets.
Place the machine in an out-of-service condition.
Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter.
Course Durations
Novice (No or little experienced)
1 delegate over 3 days 2 delegates over 4 days 3 delegates over 5 days
Exisiting / Experienced (Confident with the use of an excavator and understands all of the controls & gauges)
1 delegate over 2 days 2 or 3 delegates over 3 days
Refresher (Already attended a course of training and can prove this)
1 to 3 delegates over 1 day
Assessment (Over 2 years experience and can be verified by an employers letter)
1 to 4 delegates over 1 day
