PTLLS is both an introductory course and professional qualification, which gives a threshold status to teach. It will be mandatory for any new teacher who teaches publicly funded provision. It has been designed to develop and accredit the breadth of knowledge and skills required by teachers to develop and manage learning process.
PTLLS is aimed at those who have industry experiences and seek to change or improve career prospects by entering the teaching profession, particularly in the lifelong learning sector. It is also suitable for those who instruct in the hospitality, arts, security and leisure environment, such as fitness and martial arts instructors.
Candidates will be expected to have a standard of Literacy and Numeracy and a level of industry knowledge appropriate for a person working at a level 3. There will be an initial assessment in order to ensure that the candidate have a good standard of Literacy and Numeracy.

Course Content
Delivery includes: Understanding Roles and Responsibilities, Planning and Preparing Sessions, Assessment, Micro Teaching Sessions, Design of a Learning Programme and Production of a Learning/Personal Development Journal.
This award can either be stand alone or taken integrated into the Certificate in Teaching on the Lifelong Learning Sector.
Assessment These qualifications are centre assessed using different types of assessment, including observation of teaching, assignments, reports, journal of teaching and discussion.
The assessment is based on the achievement of specified criteria. Each of the units contains conceptualised pass criteria for unit assessment in each case.
Qualification structure The qualification involves initial assessment of Literacy, Numeracy and ICT needs, 60 hours of learning in total, observed practice and confers threshold to status to teach upon successful completion.
Candidates can claim certificates for the suite of Lifelong Learning qualifications in a number of ways:
· As a full qualification (Award, Certificate or Diploma)
· For an individual unit
Each unit of these qualifications is part of the Qualification Credit Framework, which means that a candidate can carry a unit from one qualification to another, provided it is the same level and title. For example, a candidate completing the Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector can then use this as part of the certificate qualification.
Progression routes
Since PTLLS is an introductory course, which gives a threshold status to teach for those, for whom teaching/training/tutoring is not their major role. Those, for whom teaching/tutoring/training is their major role, will be required to progress to a further qualification appropriate to role. A candidate achieving a Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Leaning Sector has the following progression routes available:
