Online Sales forecast to grow by 12% this year

According to a Press Release issued last month, IMRG and Capgemini are forecasting that consumer online retail spending will grow by 12% in 2013, with consumers spending 87bn online. In 2012 the index grew by 14%, due to a strong finish in the lead up to Christmas and the New Year.

However, what stands out is the growth in mobile Retail Sales, with the IMRG Capgemini m-Retail Sales Index recording average annual growth of 304% in 2012.

Mobile devices, be they Smartphones, Phablets or Tablets, are increasingly becoming a key central component of any marketing campaign. There is a considerable amount of untapped opportunity out their for SMEs to engage with mobile customers and increase their market share.

With analysts forecasting 1.2 billion Smartphones and Tablets sales worldwide, up from 821 million in 2012, the staggering growth in m-Retail shows no signs of abating any time soon.

Even if you don't actually sell any products or services online, make sure that any websites you have are mobile friendly, so that you don't miss out on this fast growing market.
