Get Ready for a Bumper mobile Online Sales Christmas

According to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics average weekly Internet sales values (non-seasonally adjusted) in August 2012 were estimated to be £466.1 million, which was an increase of 7.5 per cent when compared with August 2011. Internet sales were estimated to account for 8.1 per cent of all retail spending excluding automotive fuel, whilst  non-store internet sales accounted for 61.2% in August , a decrease of 0.8% on August figures for 2011.

In addition, results from the IMRG Capgemini Quarterly Benchmarking Index, site visits through mobile devices accounted for 21.1% of visits to UK retailer's websites in the 2nd quarter of this year, up from 16.4% in the 1st quarter.

Year-to-date (January to August 2012) sales via mobile devices (including tablets) have soared 320% compared to the same period in 2011.

Research also indicates that mobile devices are expected to account for 1 in 5 (20%) of online sales by Christmas, with e-retail visits via mobile devices accounting for approximately 30% of total online visits.

According to market research 25%* of all annual online sales happen in November and December. So don't miss out on those early Christmas shoppers. Make sure your eCommerce website is mobile friendly now. Online shopping, whether retail or non-retail, is big business and something you cannot afford to miss out on.

So if you have an eCommerce site already, make sure you have a mobile friendly version. If you haven't got an eCommerce site already, there is still time to get one up and running before Christmas and the New Year Sales.
