28 Million Training Course Investment in Wales

The Welsh Assembly government have announced that 28 million will be invested in leadership and management skills training courses in the coming year. The Assembly believe that this investment will foster talent and innovation in over 7,700 businesses in Wales. The training providers contracted by the Welsh Assembly will focus on delivering specialised strategic training to over 23,000 people. The majority of these people will be employed by small and medium enterprises in an attempt to support local business and industry.

The 28 million originates from three different sources. 10 million is promised from the Assembly itself, 9.4 million from the European social fund and the remaining 9 million from the private sector. This new funding is phase two of the Enhanced Leadership and Management Skills (ELMS) programme. The aim of ELMS is to foster Welsh industry to reach the standards required for successful business operations within the global marketplace. It is hoped that the money will offer a boost to Welsh businesses as they emerge from recession and push them to increase their activites in Wales and elsewhere.

Last year 37 million was invested in phase one of the programme that focused on West Wales and the valleys. Many of the businesses involved in the original program have noted positive improvements in all areas. Matthew Jones of the Quay Hotel in Deganwy, Conwy said, "It is evident that within the following six months increases in revenue and customer satisfaction had been achieved and improved staff retention and stability of the workforce was a direct result of [the] courses." With so many business applauding the implementation of the scheme and the benefits it has on creating successful business strategy it looks as though it is set to continue into the future.
